Are Sensitive Enough to be a Princess?

The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Anderson (the condensed version):

A prince wanted to marry a princess but had trouble finding a real one. On a stormy night, a young woman soaked by rain came to the prince’s castle seeking shelter. She said she was a princess. The prince’s mother decided to test the girl by placing a pea under the 20 mattresses and 20 featherbeds the girl would sleep on that night. In the morning, the girl said she could not sleep because of something hard in the bed which bruised her. The prince married the girl as only a princess could be sensitive enough to feel the pea through all of that bedding.

I wonder if the mattresses and featherbeds from the 1800’s when the story was written down were Eco Friendly Mattresses.

This mattress has high-density body contouring memory foam made from recycled material and EverGreen™, made from all-natural green tea, is embedded into the memory foam for long-lasting natural odor control.

Organic Mattresses have a layer of hypoallergenic Natura Smart Wool for ultra-plush, temperature controlled sleep.  Being a princess myself, I want the perfect mattress for a good night sleep.

  3. I agree with Brian. They were probably down. That's eco-friendly, isn't it?

  4. Realliveman: But every Prince wants a Princess, right?

Sylvia K: I hope your weekend is full of lovely princess sleep, too.

    Brian Miller: silly, silly, boy.

Ronda Laveen: I've been trying to decide if down is eco friendly. The ducks wouldn't think so but if the feathers come from ducks killed for food and you're not wasting the feathers...Hmmm?

Uh the Princess lives at my house.... our 15 year old is just so sensitive to Everything!I do have to say on your "perfect mattress" try sheets made from Bamboo they are naturally hypoallergenic (they have something in them that resists bacteria) and are the Softest thing you every sleep on I promise Nessa.

  7. This was my favorite story as a young girl. I would ask my father if I too would feel the pea through all the mattresses like the Princess. It is funny how kids think. :)

  8. Great! And if you ever get tired of your eco-mattress you can boil bits of it and drink it! Enjoy ;->

  10. Thom: Shacking up has been the norm throughout most of history. Marriage, especially for common folk is rather new.

Moorebloglife: I am going to lok for bamboo sheets. They sound fascinating.

Susan: I always liked this story too. I always pictured myself as the princess and I didn't care for my future mother-in-law.

Rochelle: Yeah. That bit is quite handing huh?

Alice: Do you sleep n the floor or in a hammock?

  13. I hope you have your princess mattress and get your princess bamboo sheets (those sound interesting)...we can't have your creative mind missng a good night's rest. I've always loved the story of The Princess and the Pea.

  14. I don't think featherbeds can be eco-friendly. I think I heard somewhere that obtaining the down kills the geese or is otherwise inhumane, besides the potential allergen problems.

  15. Princess should have what a princess does need!

  16. I second that. Lately I've been sleeping like hell.

  17. Jeanie: I was looking online for bamboo sheets and Bed Bath and Beyond has them. They sound so exotic.

Hobbes: True about the allegies. I love a feather pillow, except for the sneezing. I thought they got the feathers after the birds are dead. must research.

    Michelle: Very true!

Dreams of Perfection: I can't remember the last good night of sleep I've had. If my mind isn't working out problems semiconscously, I'm having technocolor dreams.

  20. No princess here (that would mean makeup and hair and cutie poo ball gowns and I'm too comfort oriented for all that) but I LOVE a good night's sleep!

  21. I wouldn't mind being a princess at all, even if it's for a short while..

  22. Juliana: I bet we'd sleep better if we really were trolls.

    Melli: I bet you're right.

Jennifer: Really princesses don't need all of that froo froo stuff.

    Mumsy: I hear ya.
