Flash 55 - Don't Let the Evil Road Runner Keep You Down!

~ click to make the image biggerer ~

In my dreams, I stand upon the cliff's edge,
toes dangling in the breeze.
I fling myself into the air and soar.
Sometimes I do a Wile E. splat
and like the coyote,
I get up and do it all again.
I survive the tortures of my mind,
what is there to fear in life?

There is a new book review at

I am going to start an online writers' group.
If you are like me and
can't seem to get out of your own way,
stop back over the weekend to see what I'm doing.

Write a story in exactly 55 words.

  1. I've never heard of a 55 word flash but what a fun idea and challenging. I'll be back.

  4. wonderful 55. I can relate on some level. However I am interested in your writing group. I work this weekend so it will be difficult to find you. Do you have my email from prior comments? Shoot me on when you post the details, if you can. I'll try to find you when I return home late evening.

  7. Hi Nessa.
Loved this. Sounds like me...more going on in my head at one than I could possibly accomplish in even a year. Thanks for speaking up for yourself (and me too).

  14. agrigirl: Every Friday it’s the most happenin’ place.

Thom: You are the epitome of that animalistic little tornado.

Cheesemeister: I often wish to poke a fork in my head to get it to shut up.

5thsister: I will most definitely let you know.

anthonynorth: You are right. So many talented people who just need a shove.

Brian Miller: There are many actual physical hurts that are worse, I know, but sometimes it’s the mental ones that last longest.

Doug: I think it’s time to write another fable on purpose.

K: The middle of the night jaunts are very exhausting.

Mumsy: We just have to keep at. Never give up trying, I say, and then you will really be a success.

Noe Noe Girl...A Queen of all Trades.: Yes, Ma’am. That’s the biggy.

Cheryl: It seems valid for many people.

G-Man: I use a card board box to fly in my dreams.

“Flying - To dream that you are flying, signifies a sense of freedom where you had initially felt restricted and limited.
Cardboard - To see a cardboard box in your dream indicates a lack of protection against risk.”

    How confusing is that?

jingle: Hi! I hope you have a happy Friday, too.

short poems: I am glad you did.

  15. kavisionz: I'm afraid of anything I haven't experienced before and anything that doesn't come with guarantees. So that would be almost everything.

  16. this is a positive approach on life - get up and do it all again!

  17. What a coincidence! Tom & Icy made a comment to me just the other day about Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. And what was my comment comeback to him, you might ask?

"It was just the opposite for Wile E. Coyote, though".

  18. Reminds me of that one-hit-wonder song, "Tubthumping" by Chumbawumba.

"I get knocked down. But I get up again. They're never gonna keep me down," (Repeat, repeat)

  19. Exactly right! I'll try to come back and see what you are up to.

  20. i guess we can all find something for ourselves in this piece of writing.

ps - quilly's haiku inspired this? wow!

  21. I really like "toes dangling in the breeze."

    Have a great weekend Nessa!

  22. Claudia: No matter what, we must keep going in some fashion.

karen a. : Wile E. is floating around in the air in one fashion or another.

Eric Alder: I absolutely love that song. And now I will be hearing it in my head for the rest of the day. I’m not sure I can thatnk you for that. 

PattiKen: I hope I come up with something useful and worth your time.

juliana: Quilly’s haiku inspired the pending writers’ group/workshop.

jennifer: Me, too. I could feel the wind between my toes (as oppose to the wind in my hair.)

  23. Nessa, this is a way cool 55, and a great reminder that our fears, the barriers our ego puts between us and our dreams, are just ghosts that can't ever really touch us if we are brave enough to tell them to step aside.

And funny, a short before a main kids' movie last week was a brand-new digital Wile E. Coyote. Poor guy -- talk about a bungee cord ordeal!

  24. I used to have flying dreams. Even wrote a post on it last summer. I suggest not splatting but flying.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit to my 55.

  25. I will be back to see. In my dreams I try to achieve my goals and fall splat .... need to change the endings.

  27. I think I might fear the splat, real or imagined, it's gotta hurt.

  28. Jannie Funster: It is important that we learn to have unreasonable confidence in ourselves to make our dreams come true.

Monkey Man: The flying is defintelt the fun part.

Anonymous: I’m glad my information entertained you.

quilly: Yes, we can do it. We will make the endings we want.

Jingle: Your posts are always bright and cheerful.

Alice Audrey: Splatting is not something one looks to do on purpose.

  29. Some splats are predictable. It always bugged me that Wylie Coyote never foresaw his own splats.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cool - I wish I could be more like Wylie Coyote, someone recently pointed out I'm not much of a risk taker. Sometimes that's good & sometimes bad.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Spirited dream! Feels encouraging to me. I'm looking forward to find out the details on your writers' group.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Alice Audrey: That is a little problem with my theory. He never seemed to learn anything.

Sue: A certain amount of risk is necessary but some people do get carried away. Balance is always a good idea.

Rosidah Abidin: My dreams are always spirited. The writer's group is up.
