My parents, my brother and sister-in-law, my two nieces, my
great-nephew (one and a half years old) my husband, my daughter and her
boyfriend and myself, eating the same food as every year, picking on
each other, remembering Christmases past and opening gifts.
I always feel sad on Christmas Day. The month long buildup to anticipated
perfection wears me out. I tried keep my expectations at a realistic
level this year and I believe that made a difference to my enjoyment of
the season. Now, I look forward to the peace of January and more free
time.
As I sit in my warm livingroom, with the rain spattering on the roof and windows, I reflect on how lucky I am. I thank God for all of the wonders in my life.
I am off to visit everyone and to respond to all of the wonderful comments on my last post.
My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is: Her Eminence the Very Viscountess Nessa the Corpulent of Yockenthwait Walden Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title |
This is my official title. Please use it when speaking to me. Libragirl pointed out the site where you can get your own.
I have a comment for Her Eminence the Very Viscountess Nessa the Corpulent of Yockenthwait Walden, but now I am too exhausted to type it.
ReplyDeleteNessa, glad you are nesting tonight and feeling warm and happy in the aftermath. Quiet here in the RV tonight, too.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the holidays...I used to build them up so high...and then crash when 'real life' happened. Much more enjoyable now that I accept we are all just human, and that there will be the normal 'family' stuff sometimes.
P.S. I got my aristocratic title. Something about a fishbone, I think. Not nearly as good as yours! LOL
Could we settle on Your Emminence? Sounds like a nice family gathering - post holidays can be a letdown but also a chance to have some time back to yourself as you pointed out.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and the family best of everything in the New Year. With a litttle chicken soup and tea, we're making our way back to health. thanks for your well wishes. :)
Merry Christmas, darling girl. I hope that you have all that you need and love. Thank you for being a wonderful new friend. That is a great present to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice refreshingly positive post. And the rain is pattering on my window as I type. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis year my family celebrated Christmas on Christmas eve for the first time. It was great! It was so nice to sleep in and not worry about waking up for presents. Luckily, our son is only 2 so he wasn't at all upset or suspicious that "Santa" came a day early.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you feel sad on Christmas, but happy that this year was better! I'm always so happy and relieved when it's over, the peace and quite is much needed.
Best wishes to you and your family
Merriest of Merries and Coolest of Yules! I hope you got all you hoped for and more :)
